ArrayComm Demonstrates Major Performance and Cost Improvements in GSM and PCS Applications; Field Trials Prove Spatial Channels Technology Increases Capacity With GSM Protocols.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1997--ArrayComm Inc. recently announced the successful completion of both in-house tests and European field trials proving the ability of its IntelliCell technology to significantly increase system capacity and voice quality while lowering total cost per subscriber in Global System for Mobile (GSM) communications networks.

The field trials involved two major GSM protocols -- DCS-1800 (1800 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. ) and PCS-1900 (1900 MHz). GSM is the most widely deployed high-mobility wireless standard in the world, with more than 49 million subscribers.

The result is high-capacity, high-quality access to the public network at much lower cost than other wireless technologies and, in the case of ArrayComm's IntelliWave WLL See wireless local loop and PHS-WLL.  wireless local-loop system, at a lower cost than wireline installations.

ArrayComm's development of the PCS-1900 platform was partially supported by the U.S. Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA ARPA - Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ), with participation by Watkins-Johnson and Spectrian.

ArrayComm developed the system architecture and all of the base- station and GSM software, and provided systems integration. The IntelliCell adaptive wireless technology was shown to increase capacity and coverage. It consistently yielded more than eight times the gain of systems based on conventional antennas and interference mitigation of 20 dB, or a factor of 100.
