Array Networks Unveils Significant Enhancements to SSL VPN Series; New Software Release Delivers Superior Management, Security, Reporting and Capacity Features to Meet the Rigorous Needs of Enterprises and Service Providers.

MILPITAS, Calif. -- Array Networks, a global leader in secure, high-performance IP access solutions, today announced major enhancements to its SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  SPX (Sequenced Packet EXchange) The transport layer protocol in the NetWare operating system. Similar to the TCP layer in TCP/IP, it ensures that the entire message arrives intact. SPX uses NetWare's IPX as its delivery mechanism.  Series. New software features include innovative management, security, reporting and capacity capabilities which further optimize SSL VPN functionality for Array's large enterprise and service provider customers. With this latest release, Array is now the only vendor in the industry to support 256 virtual portals and 64,000 concurrent users with single digit millisecond One thousandth of a second.  latency -- all within a single system. Array also unveiled a new GINA GINA - Generic Interactive Application. An application framework based on Common Lisp and OSF/Motif, designed to simplify the construction of graphical interactive applications.  (Graphical Identification and Authentication The graphical identification and authentication (GINA) library, a component of some Microsoft Windows operating systems provides secure authentication and interactive logon services. ) in response to the growing market demand for universal access, providing users with a simplified login and authentication experience from both inside and outside the LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. .

New features of Array's SSL VPN SPX Series include:

capabilities take SSL VPNs to a new level. With this new software release, Array's virtualization features are designed to allow service providers and large enterprises to offer up to 256 fully independent virtual portals on the same infrastructure -- each with complete security and data separation. Hosting multiple portals on a single Array system saves organizations significant costs by removing the need to operate and manage multiple, disparate Web portals and security systems.

--Expanded, Role-based Administration: Using Array's new role-based administration capabilities, the global administrator can now manage the entire system while delegating specific roles to the supplier, employee or customer virtual portal administrators. Roles can be defined at a very granular level; for example, a security administrator might have very different access privileges versus a network administrator. As additional security, two-factor authentication The use of two independent mechanisms for authentication; for example, requiring a smart card and a password. The combination is less likely to allow abuse than either component alone. See authentication.  can be applied to any role-based administrator.

--Enhanced Compliance: By supporting detailed RADIUS accounting information, the latest version of SPX greatly enhances accounting and reporting support so that customers can more easily ensure HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191) Also known as the "Kennedy-Kassebaum Act," this U.S. law protects employees' health insurance coverage when they change or lose their jobs (Title I) and provides standards for patient health,  and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

--GINA (Graphical Identification and Authentication): Array's GINA streamlines the Microsoft Windows See Windows.

log-in process for end users and administrators, creates the initial desktop environment, and is responsible for locking and shutting down the workstation. Enterprises benefit from increased productivity as users will only require one log-in in order to access the protection of Array's SSL VPN solution. In addition to username and password, Array's GINA also provides a means to login with token-less two-factor authentication technology from Swivel Secure and other leading token-based two-factor authentication companies.

"As enterprises continue to implement SSL VPN solutions for secure, universal access, they seek flexibility and control to better manage these systems," said Aaron Vance, senior analyst with Synergy Research Group. "Array's SSL VPN solution allows users to log-in easily and securely, while providing administrators the ability to manage and delegate network access for security and compliance."

"When we went through our last acquisition, we were charged with setting up full-capacity remote access in less than a month -- Array was ready in two weeks," said Tarron Weir, vice president and chief security officer of Hub International Hub International Limited is an insurance brokerage based in Chicago, Illinois. The company has 200+ offices across the United States and Canada. The company offers three types of commercial products and services: property and casualty products, employee benefits and risk , Inc. "Ever since that initial success Array's technology has continued to save us man hours and money. The new version of the SPX promises to extend these savings while addressing the needs of our IT managers and enhancing the security of our network."
