CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 2002

Array Product Family Comes with New Intuitive Graphical User

Interface. Array SpeedCache Improves Cache Utilization by up to 50

Percent.

Array Networks unveiled its latest integrated Array Web Traffic Manager with new capabilities that accelerate performance, simplify network management, enhance network security, and ensure the lowest total cost of ownership. The Array's enhanced SpeedCache(TM) in-memory caching is integrated with its unique SpeedStack(TM) network processing technology to deliver 40,000 HTTP HTTP

1.1 requests per second. This industry-leading performance combined with pay-as-you-grow flexibility extends Array's leadership as the industry's first fully integrated Web traffic management platform.

Accelerated Performance
-- SpeedCache Technology: The Array's SpeedCache dramatically improves cache
utilization by up to 50 percent and significantly reduces loads on backend
servers. Advanced cache management enables the administrator to lock specified
objects into or out of the Array cache.

-- Array Pilot (TM): The Array Pilot provides a secure, Web-based management
interface to all Array functions including the highly visual Flight Deck for
real-time, at-a-glance views of the status and health of Array clusters, the
underlying network and connected Web servers.

-- SSL-on-the-Inside: SSL-on-the-inside decrypts SSL sessions to determine the
appropriate Web server, then re-encrypts the access request so that clear text
is never exposed even to the internal network.

-- Application Gateway: The Array API is a full proxy application programming
interface (API) that enables third-party applications integrated on the Array
platform to modify incoming HTTP requests and outgoing responses.

-- Other Enhancements: Other new features include client-IP and client-network
persistence, load balancing based on Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) session ID, and
Enterprise MIBs usable by any third-party Simple Network Management Protocol
(SNMP) application.

The Array Web Traffic Manager integrates seven essential networking features into a powerful, integrated platform, including Layer 4-7 server load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them , high-performance caching, SSL acceleration SSL acceleration is a method of offloading the processor-intensive public key encryption algorithms involved in SSL transactions to a hardware accelerator. Typically, this is a separate card that plugs into a PCI slot in a computer that contains one or more co-processors able to , content rewrite for transparent interaction with content delivery networks (CDNs), Webwall security, global server load balancing This article is written like a personal reflection or and may require .

, and N+1 clustering. The Array's embedded SpeedStack network processing technology delivers performance that surpasses conventional load balancers, content switches, caches, and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  accelerators. Pay-as-you-grow feature control allows customers to enable additional features on the fly via a software license key.

"We rely on the Array solution to provide the essential SSL Internet security ''This article or section is being rewritten at

for our iiNET, an electronic data exchange and data distribution service that enables industry partners to communicate time-sensitive information in a secure, reliable and cost-effective environment," said Luigi Campellone, Director, International Air Transport Association. "The Array's integrated SSL security costs much less and is easier to deploy than a VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  or other SSL accelerators that require complex integration and is more secure and offers better performance than adding an SSL board to back-end servers. The Array appliance provided an immediate return on investment simply by enabling our customers to use their own Internet connections instead of expensive dedicated access lines."

The Array 1000 TX delivers up to 80,000 HTTP 1.1 requests per second in a typical dual-system cluster. The high-end Array 1000 TX-i can maintain 1,000,000 active connections with sustained packet flow of 750 megabits per second (unit) megabits per second - (Mbps, Mb/s) Millions of bits per second. A unit of data rate. 1 Mb/s = 1,000,000 bits per second (not 1,048,576).

E.g. Ethernet can carry 10 Mbps.
. Using Array's ultra-fast Scalable Permission Control(TM) rules engine, the Array's Webwall security framework can protect up to 1,000 backend servers and support thousands of access control lists while never consuming more than one percent of the Array's network processing capacity.

"Array Networks is offering a next-generation architecture that provides multiple functions in an integrated platform," said Lucinda Borovick, Director of Datacenter Networks for IDC. "By allowing customers to purchase functions on an as-needed basis as well as providing the ArrayOS API to third-party developers Array offers customers configuration and pricing flexibility."

Array Networks recently announced its new Array SP (Security Proxy) secure Web Traffic Manager for the Enterprise. The Array SP platform delivers secure, SSL-accelerated, anytime-anywhere Web access, enabling enterprises to defend and police Web services (1) Loosely, any online service delivered over the Web. , authorization, and accounting. Array Networks will demonstrate the Array 1000 Web Traffic Manager and Array Security Proxy at SUPERCOMM 2002 in Atlanta, Georgia, June 2-6, in Netcom's Booth # 21215.

Pricing and Availability

Array 500 and Array 1000 Web Traffic Managers equipped with ArrayOS 3.1 are now available from Array Networks and the company's worldwide network of value-added resellers. Pricing ranges from $3,995 to $39,990 depending on configuration.
