Array Microsysetms Partners With Teles Corp. To Develop Personal Video Communications For The Desktop.

Microsystems Inc., a supplier of semiconductor devices for advanced PC video compression solutions, today announced that it has signed an agreement with TELES Corp. to supply the video conferencing portion of Array's multi-function Personal Video Communications (PVC) reference design.

The PVC reference design, based on Array's video codec chip, enables applications such as Video E-Mail, CD-ROM authoring, CD-ROM playback and video conferencing -- all on a single PC add-in board. The reference design is expected to be released in May 1996.

"The result of this collaboration is the availability of the industry's best-performing, standard-compliant desktop video conferencing system," said Surendar Magar, president and chief executive officer of Array Microsystems. "TELES Corp. is providing a key piece of technology for our personal video communications product development strategy."

Based on Array's industry-leading VideoFlow chipset, the PVC reference design capabilities include real-time (30 frames per second) MPEG I,B,P frame encode and decode, as well as H.320/T.120 video conferencing. TELES Corp. is adapting its tested and verified Desktop Multimedia Conferencing (DMC) software tool kit to Array's PVC reference design to enable H.320 video conferencing applications. H.320 is the industry standard protocol for video conferencing. The PVC board is optimized for Pentium-class personal computers running Windows 95.
