The event dates back to the first British stage races held just after the Second World War, since when various events have been . They toured farms in North Cumbria and saw a number of diversifications, land- based industries and tourist sites. These included trips to Mitchell's Auction, Carrs CARRS Centre for Accident Research & Road Safety CARRS Contract Administration Records & Retrieval System CARRS Custom Access to Rochade Repository Software (RCAS) CARRS Cask Railcar Response Spectra Billington Agriculture, Wellington Jersey Ice Cream Farm, Birdoswald and Low Luckens Organic Resource Centre. Their visit last week ended with a barbecue at High Head Sculpture Valley, Ivegill. The tour, by a delegation of men and women, was organised by the Rural Women's Network and Tasmanian Women in Agriculture, who are part of the Australian Women in Agriculture (AWiA) national network. AWiA's aim is to unite and raise the profile of women in all aspects of agricultural industry. AWiA programme officer Caroline Brown said, "I know that our members have been really excited about visiting Cumbria and experiencing first hand the Cumbrian farming way of life". Rural Women's Network programme manager Gillian Murdoch said: "This is a great opportunity for us to share ideas and discuss ways in which we can best manage agriculture in both the UK and Tasmania." |
