Arnesen denies Lane rift.

Tottenham sporting director Frank Arnesen has denied former head coach Jacques Santini's claim that there was a rift between them at White Hart Lane.

The Dane, who took over from director of football David Pleat in July before Santini was appointed to run the team, said he had no problem with the ex-France national squad coach.

But Arnesen has revealed there are no plans to add to the coaching staff now Martin Jol has taken over running team affairs.

Santini quit Tottenham nine days ago citing "personal problems" but has since blamed the breakdown of his relationship with the club's sporting director.

In a hard-hitting French television interview, he spoke of "a problem of where responsibility lay in the club, where we could never reach agreement".

Arnesen's position as Spurs' key decision-maker on signing new players was a major area of conflict and, ultimately, made his job untenable.

But Arnesen, now working in tandem with Dutchman Jol who has moved up to Santini's old job, said yesterday: "If he has a problem, then it is his problem."
