WASHINGTON -- On Oct. 27, Army Maj. Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general at a Pentagon ceremony hosted by the chief of staff of the Army, Gen. Peter Schoomaker General Peter J. Schoomaker (b. February 12, 1946) was the 35th Chief of Staff of the United States Army, serving from August 1, 2003 to April 10, 2007, when the Army announced he would be replaced by General George Casey; Schoomaker will retire from the Army for the second time .
