Army let our son die, say family; Teenager was bullied.

Byline: By Nick Foley

PARENTS of a teenage soldier who committed suicide yesterday slammed the Army for failing to protect him.

Scots fusilier Stuart Henderson, 18, was found hanging from a rifle strap at his barracks in Cyprus on September 23 last year.

The inquest into his death heard how he struggled with Army life because of dyslexia dyslexia (dĭslĕk`sēə), in psychology, a developmental disability in reading or spelling, generally becoming evident in early schooling. To a dyslexic, letters and words may appear reversed, e.g.  and co-ordination disorder dyspraxia dyspraxia /dys·prax·ia/ (dis-prak´se-ah) partial loss of ability to perform coordinated acts.

After a coroner in Glouscestershire recorded a verdict of suicide, John and Catherine Henderson said they believe their son would still be alive if he had left the military.

They claimed Stuart had suffered "beastings" - informal punishments.

They added: "The system was not sufficient to care for suspected vulnerable soldiers."

Stuart, from Parkhead, Glasgow, joined the Royal Highland Fusiliers The Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment) was a regular Scottish line infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the Scottish Division, and abbreviated as 'The RHF'.  in April 2005.

His parents insist he shouldn't have passed out and say the Army wanted to "make up numbers".
