The official opening ceremony, which was staged on Monday, was attended by Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is an aerospace and defense conglomerate that is the result of the 1994 purchase of Grumman by Northrop. The company is the third largest defense contractor for the U.S. executives, as well as MoD officials and local political leaders, who were given a tour of the facility as well as demonstrations of its ground vehicles. Paul Davison, vice-president and managing director of Northrop Grumman's information systems sector in Europe, said: "We have made a significant investment in extending and upgrading our Coventry site, improving design and manufacturing facilities and creating a new test and maintenance area. "This now increases the company's capability to develop, test and maintain the full range of our unmanned vehicles in a secure, state-of-the-art environment. "The extended facilities underpin Northrop Grumman's commitment to maintaining the long term operational capability in unmanned ground vehicles of our UK and international customers." Northrop Grumman's business has been in Coventry for more than 20 years. Today the company designs, develops and produces some of the most sophisticated unmanned vehicles available from the Wheelbarrow bomb disposal robot and Cutlass, the next generation vehicle for hazardous operations in development for the Ministry of Defence, to smaller vehicles Caliber and Mantis. Naval career Essenhigh was born in Newcastle and attended St. Cuthbert's School. , chairman of Northrop Grumman UK - who also attended the opening, added: "This will significantly strengthen the support we provide to our MoD and other customers and marks another milestone in Northrop Grumman's continuing commitment to improve its UK-based technical capabilities. "The extended facilities in Coventry will enable us to develop further our design and manufacturing and provide more comprehensive and responsive service support for these strategically important systems."
