Army National Guard deployment ceremony Sunday at fairgrounds.

ALBANY - A deployment ceremony for the Army National Guard's 224 Engineer Company based in Albany and Newport will be Sunday at the Linn County Linn County is the name of four counties in the United States:
  • Linn County, Iowa
  • Linn County, Kansas
  • Linn County, Missouri
  • Linn County, Oregon

Albany has 89 soldiers assigned, and Newport has a detachment of 32 soldiers. Five soldiers from Springfield and two from Eugene, as well as two from Coos County Coos County is the name of two counties in the United States:
  • Coos County, New Hampshire
  • Coos County, Oregon
, will be mobilizing for the rotation to Iraq.

This marks the second deployment for this unit, which, prior to the Army's reorganization, was Bravo Company. It was one of the first units from Oregon to deploy to Iraq in 2003.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski Theodore R. "Ted" Kulongoski (born November 5 1940, in rural Missouri[1]) is an American Democratic politician. Since 2003, he has served as the Governor of Oregon. He was re-elected in 2006. , Maj. Gen. Raymond Rees, and Adjutant ADJUTANT. A military officer, attached to every battalion of a regiment. It is his duty to superintend, under his superiors, all matters relating to the ordinary routine of discipline in the regiment.  Gen. and Brigadier Gen. Charles Yriarte Charles Yriarte (December 5 1832, Paris - 1898) was a French writer from a family originally from Spain. He studied architecture in the École des Beaux-Arts and became in 1856 inspector of government buildings. , commander of the 82 Brigade, will take part in the ceremony.

Family members and friends are welcome to attend the ceremony.

The company will train in Ft. McCoy, Wis., for more than two months for pre-mobilization training before deploying to Iraq, where they will clear roads and provide other infrastructure support.

This unit primarily focuses on construction with the specialty of rebuilding roadways and berms.

Several soldiers were originally a part of the B-52 Engineer Co., which deployed to Iraq in 2003 to rebuild bridges and roadways, as well as other infrastructure.

The company also constructed the House/Village of Hope, built homes for homeless Iraqis and taught Iraqis construction skills.

The 224 Engineer Co. has worked on several community construction projects including the construction of a septic system in eastern Oregon and the construction of a veterans' memorial in Albany.
