Army Corps to Release Draft Harbor Navigation Study Report.NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1999-- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of District (the District), will release Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, for public review, a draft version of a harbor navigation study report, which lays out an overall strategy for harbor channel improvements in the Port of New York and New Jersey. Noun 1. deepening - a process of becoming deeper and more profound the Port's main channels to a depth of 50 feet which will remove some 47 million cubic yards of sediment sediment, mineral or organic particles that are deposited by the action of wind, water, or glacial ice. These sediments can eventually form sedimentary rocks (see rock). , a combined effort estimated to cost 1.8 billion dollars. The report discusses a range of issues including a determination of the economic feasibility of deepening channels, an assessment of potential environmental (biological, physical and chemical) impacts from construction and improved navigation, and sediment disposal.. The Corps plans to put forward its final recommendations December 1999.
