Army Awards $49 Million Contract to Motorola For Joint Services Work Station; JSWS Provides Common Operating Picture of Battlefield for All Services.Business Editors SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 2000 Motorola (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : MOT) Tuesday announced that the U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command (CECOM CECOM Communications Electronics Command (US Army) CECOM National Center for Communications of the Civil Protection Agency ) has awarded it a $49.7 million delivery-order contract for the Joint Services Work Station Production Program. The Joint Services Work Station (JSWS) is a real-time, multi-sensor Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) system that utilizes the same software as the successful JSTARS JSTARS Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System Common Ground Station (CGS) program. JSWS is combat proven and supports missions such as real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance may refer to:
JSWS acquires, processes, displays and disseminates information from multiple real-time sensors including Moving Target Indicator A radar presentation which shows only targets which are in motion. Signals from stationary targets are subtracted out of the return signal by the output of a suitable memory circuit. (MTI); Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR (Segmentation And Reassembly) The protocol that converts data to cells for transmission over an ATM network. It is the lower part of the ATM Adaption Layer (AAL), which is responsible for the entire operation. See AAL. SAR - segmentation and reassembly ); Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

SIGINT - intelligence information gathered from communications intelligence or electronics intelligence or telemetry intelligence signals intelligence ); Electronic Intelligence and other sources. The system utilizes the CGS software that provides the ability to interface with a robust suite of communications equipment for secure radio, satellite and landline communications. Packed in its own transit cases, the JSWS is a mobile, highly deployable system that can support a wide range of global missions including wartime battlefield management; low, medium and high intensity crisis management; peace keeping operations; war on drugs; and contingency operations. "PM Joint STARS is looking forward to managing this program and providing a common work station for all services," said Hank Wollman, program manager, JSWS, Joint STARS Program Office. "This will significantly increase interoperability of all forces through a common operating picture." "Our system has proven itself as a multi real-time sensor during the Kosovo campaign. It will raise confidence levels in the critical decisions needed for decisive victories on the modern battlefield," said Mark Fried, corporate vice president and general manager of the Motorola Integrated Systems Division (ISD), the business division that is the prime contractor for the JSWS. "The JSWS will allow joint service commanders to receive data on the same platform and see situations with a reliability never before possible and make decisions with certainty."
