Arkema ready for change.

European regulations require a ban on the use of HCFC Noun 1. HCFC - a fluorocarbon that is replacing chlorofluorocarbon as a refrigerant and propellant in aerosol cans; considered to be somewhat less destructive to the atmosphere

Refrigeration in its modern, portable form also depends on insulating materials that are thin yet effective.  equipment.

Arkema has been anticipating this deadline since 2005 by launching Forane R 427A, a 100 percent HFC 1. (networking) HFC - Hybrid Fiber Coax.

Arkema provides end-users in Europe with technical and environmental information on Forane R 427A to assist them with the retrofitting of their refrigeration equipment.

The site is also intended for maintenance contractors as it explains the regulatory data regarding the ban on HCFC-22, and so can help them provide a better service to their own customers.

In the US Forane R 427A has just been granted "Significant New Alternatives Policy" (SNAP) approval by the EPA EPA eicosapentaenoic acid.

It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and ) for use immediately in existing refrigeration installations as a substitute to HCFC-22, due to be banned gradually from the North American market from 2010.

Leonidas has chosen Arkemais Forane R 427A refrigerant fluid, a 100 percent HFC blend, for the conversion of existing equipment running on R-22, an HCFC generation refrigerant fluid.

The retrofit operation was carried out at the Leonidas Brussels plant, Belgium, by contractor Dehon Climalife Belgium. The famous Belgian chocolate maker performed this retrofit in anticipation of the ban on virgin HCFC 22 refrigerant fluid for refrigeration equipment maintenance coming into force on December 31st 2009 as directed by European regulation 2037/2000.

The equipment is a refrigeration tunnel maintained at--4C, is used in the end-process of the chocolates manufacture. The retrofit took place in April 2008, and the equipment is running highly satisfactorily. On the strength of this success, Leonidas subsequently retrofitted a further two items of equipment at its plant, one used for the air-conditioning of the zone and the other for the packaging plant. Leonidas is also planning further retrofit operations using Forane R 427A at the plant in order to comply with the HFC ban timetable.
