Arkeia Software Announces Arkeia Network Backup Version 6.0.

Powerful New Data Protection Features for Midsized and Large Enterprises

CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Arkeia Software, the leading provider of powerful, innovative data protection software, announced today Arkeia Network Backup Version 6.0, a new network backup solution that provides seamless data protection for large enterprises with distributed data.

Arkeia Network Backup Version 6.0 delivers features to reduce costs, improve backup performance and increase flexibility for distributed infrastructures such as organizations with Storage Area Networks. Integral to Version 6.0 are Advanced SAN Support, Remote Drive Management, Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape and integrated Virtual Tape Library A hard disk array that emulates a tape library. A virtual tape library (VTL) enables the storage medium to be switched from tapes to disks while continuing to use the existing tape backup software. See virtual tape system and storage virtualization. .

"Arkeia Network Backup V6 is a breakthrough solution for large environments with distributed computing (1) The use of multiple computers networked throughout a wide geographical area, or the world via the Internet, in order to solve a single problem. See grid computing.

(2) The use of multiple computers in an enterprise rather than one centralized system.
," said Alex Roca, Director of IT Services at Sunroad Technologies, a global managed service provider. "We have large customers with broadly distributed operations Distributed Operations (DO) is a new warfighting concept being adopted by the United States Marine Corps and is being developed by their Warfighting Laboratory as a response to the changing environment of the Global War on Terror.  and the new options in V6 such as Media Server for SANs and Remote Drive Management for LANs are outstanding solutions for centralized data protection. These features will help us consolidate storage hardware, improve backup performance and make full use of SAN investments."

Key new features include:

* Media Server for SAN (MSS) option enables LAN-free backup A LAN-free backup is a backup of server data to a shared, central storage device without sending the data over the local area network (LAN). It is usually achieved by using a storage area network (SAN).  for SAN environments. MSS will help to ease network congestion In data networking and queueing theory, network congestion occurs when a link or node is carrying so much data that its quality of service deteriorates. Typical effects include queueing delay, packet loss or the blocking of new connections. , allow dynamic sharing of SAN attached storage devices and will optimize SAN investments by allowing direct SAN connectivity of servers with critical data and of storage devices such as tape libraries.

* Remote Drive Management (RDM RDM Ring Deutscher Makler (German Realty Association)
RDM Red Mage (Final Fantasy, gaming)
RDM Remote Device Management (protocol used in theatre lighting equipment)
) for LANs and WANs to centralize the management of remote servers & networks and to consolidate and share drives across the LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. . RDM also features enhanced support for remote/stand alone Windows servers.

* Integrated Virtual Tape Library (VTL See virtual tape library. ) option to leverage the performance and flexibility of disk technology and with 1TB capacity included for free.

* Innovative Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape (D2D2T (Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape) Refers to backing up data on disks first and tape (or optical disc) second. Backing up onto tape is performed at less frequent intervals than from disk to disk. See D2D and virtual tape. ) option to shorten backup and restore times and to create granular tiered storage policies.

"Large customers with many sites and a lot of distributed data have asked for the ability to reliably protect their data assets, regardless of IT infrastructure," said Alain Pechon, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Arkeia Software. "Version 6.0 is a major step forward for our flagship product and will bring tremendous value to customers who are concerned with the cost and complexity found in antiquated solutions such as Symantec NetBackup and Legato Networker."

Pricing and Availability

Arkeia Network Backup Version 6.0 options, including Media Server for SAN, Remote Drive Management for LAN and integrated VTL, are available in October 2006. Media Server for SAN begins at $1,000 per SAN attached server; Remote Drive Management begins at $500 per managed drive; and integrated VTL is free up to 1TB and is then priced based on VTL size starting at $2,500 up to 5TB. Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape will be available later in Q4 2006 and will start at $1,000 per backup server.
