Arkeia Launches Smart Backup Solution with Innovative Volume-Based Pricing Technology; Small, Midsize Businesses Regain Control of Storage Costs and Pay Only for Actual Use.

CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Arkeia Corp. announced today the introduction of Arkeia Smart Backup, a powerful new network backup solution that provides small and midsize businesses with an innovative technology to help control their storage budget: integrated data volume base pricing.

Arkeia Smart Backup allows companies to pay only for what they actually use, yet still enjoy the speed and reliability of Arkeia's powerful backup and restore engine. The new software covers a wide spectrum of data protection strategies, fully supporting disk-to-disk backup environments as well as traditional disk-to-tape and tape autoloaders.

Arkeia Smart Backup also features:

--Network backup capability with client support for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, NetWare and xBSD to protect complex heterogeneous environments Using hardware and system software from different vendors. Organizations often use computers, operating systems and databases from a variety of vendors. Contrast with homogeneous environment.

--Easy-to-use Java-based graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

--Simultaneous (parallel) backup of several machines to leverage Arkeia's multi-flow technology for reduced backup windows

--Support of hot database and application backup plug-ins to ensure that running application data is protected

"Arkeia Smart Backup volume-based pricing gets rid of headaches related to pricing based on the number or type of servers," said Eric Kappes, manager, information systems at Mayfield Clinic in Cincinnati. "There are no more hassles when I add new machines to the network, replace a server with an OS change, or consolidate and re-deploy servers. Best of all, I only pay for what I use. This pricing structure is a much more reasonable approach than that used by most software vendors."

Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, commented: "Arkeia's new licensing technology helps solve the significant pain of managing IT storage infrastructure costs. The extremely low entry price point and the easy way to expand data volume makes this is an excellent option for small and midsize companies who need fast and reliable network backup."

Arkeia Smart Backup is based on Arkeia's award-winning network backup technology and replaces the company's free backup software See backup program.
