& Co. (LS&CO.) will voluntarily participate in the state's Extra-Hazardous Employer Program.

The Arkansas Extra-Hazardous Employer Program is designed to identify workplaces that record higher-than-average injury rates and assist employers in improving the safety of their work environments. LS&CO. volunteered to participate in the program because its preventative, proactive approach to worker health and safety caused an increase in the rate of claims it made to the state.

"By its voluntary participation in this safety program, Levi Strauss & Co. is demonstrating great concern for the well-being of its nearly 2,000 employees in the state," said Clingman. "The Commission and staff are excited to work in collaboration with employers like Levi Strauss & Co. who have shown a responsible commitment to workplace safety, awareness and education," he added.

"We want our employees to report any health concern because a strong reporting system helps to identify and prevent potentially more serious problems," said Armando Ojeda, vice president, prevention, safety and health at LS&CO. "By being proactive, our workers' compensation claims have shown an increase. However, this system allows for early intervention ear·ly intervention
