Arizona Technology Council Presents: Cultural Computing: Novel Intellect and Future Markets Oct. 12, 2006 Council Connect Event.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Technology shapes our world and links our thinking. People, process and technology have merged to develop a new culture. Cultural Computing is the most important and profound generational shift and will have extraordinary impact on your life and your business.

How this new genre affects every part of who we are and what we do is the subject of the next Council Connect.

Last month, the Arizona Technology Council presented a Council Connect dedicated to the changing workforce. Attendees of the event learned about the new generation workforce: "the millennial worker," how they impact Arizona business, and how to make them efficient and effective in their careers. Millennials (people under the age of 25) are culturally comfortable with this way of life -- computing. Donna Kent, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of the Arizona Tech Council, stated that "understanding this type of intellect is the key to understanding the growth and retention of your business ... the people who will bring your company to the next level of innovation and success."

The next Council Connect will delve further into the current cultural shift. "Cultural Computing" is the most important and profound concept to impact your business for it involves the way we learn, live and interact. People do this every day but none of them realize the dichotomy they are living.

Cultural computing is all around and we must nurture it in schools and businesses. The integration of computing and digital media in our lives is changing the way we think, learn, apply knowledge, communicate and produce. The emergence of a hybrid physical-digital human intelligence:

--establishes dynamic, hybrid networks of people and technology as the main processing and production mechanism

--transcends the current notion of intellectual property

--devalues the role of competition in growth

--establishes concurrences as a powerful knowledge generation mechanism

--integrates embodied and intellectual understanding

Dr. Rikakis will present specific examples of these emerging changes and discuss the effects these trends are having on society, technology and the economy. He will provide suggestions for the kinds of infrastructure and models that can prepare the state of Arizona to aggressively embrace this generational genre.

The Arizona Technology Council is pleased to present our signature knowledge-sharing event -- Council Connect, featuring Thanassis Rikakis, professor and director of the Arts, Media and Engineering Program at Arizona State University Arizona State University, at Tempe; coeducational; opened 1886 as a normal school, became 1925 Tempe State Teachers College, renamed 1945 Arizona State College at Tempe.
