Arizona Technology Council Announces Appointment of Steven G. Zylstra as President & CEO.
Mr. Zylstra joins the Council from the Pittsburgh Technology Council where he served as President and CEO for the past seven years. During his tenure in Pittsburgh, Mr. Zylstra also simultaneously served this leadership function for Catalyst Connection, a Manufacturing Extension Partnership, the Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Commercialization Center, the Doyle Center for Manufacturing Technology and Pittsburgh Biomedical Development Corporation. He joined the Pittsburgh Technology Council et al after serving as Director, Business Development for Simula Technologies, Inc. Prior to joining Simula, Mr. Zylstra served as General Manager, General Pneumatics Corporation's Western Research Center and, prior to that, he served as Technical Manager for Bendix Guidance Systems Division. Mr. Zylstra joins the Council with nearly 30 years of senior management, association management, business development, marketing, government relations, engineering and public relations experience, including the past 7 years as a chief spokesman for the technology and manufacturing industries in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
The Council's Chairman, Michael Berens said: "In Steve, the Council is adding a highly-seasoned, top-notch leader to take the Arizona Technology Council to the next level. His diverse background steeped in technology and manufacturing along with his legacy of leadership in this arena make him especially well-suited to champion issues of members' value while respecting the intrinsic complexities of the growing technology sector in Arizona. During his career in Arizona from 1984 to 2000, Mr. Zylstra was a co-founder and member of the Governor's Arizona Science and Technology Council, as well as a co-founder and past chairman of the Arizona Innovation Network. Zylstra also was a member of the Governor's Arizona Partnership for the New Economy, and served as director of the Executive Committee of the Arizona Technology Incubator. Additionally, he served as chairman of the Governor's Strategic Partnership for Economic Development, High Technology Industry Cluster. He was a past director of the Arizona Technology Development Authority, and was a member of the Governor's Council for Workforce Development Policy. Zylstra served as past chairman of the industry advisory council of Arizona State University's Corporate Leaders Program, as well as director of the Arizona State University Research Park, among other activities.
Mr. Zylstra currently is a member of the Council on Competitiveness and also is a member of the industrial advisory committee at the University of Arizona College of Engineering and Mines.
Mr. Zylstra earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University.
