Statewide Students in Fifth to Eighth Grades Eligible to Win Cash Prizes

PHOENIX -- Young students will have an opportunity to compete and win cash prizes in the fourth annual Avnet Science and Technology Fair on April 14, 2007, at the Arizona Science Center Arizona Science Center is focused on inspiring, educating, and entertaining people about science. The Center is located in Heritage and Science Park in the heart of downtown Phoenix. , located at 600 East Washington Street The following streets in the United States are called Washington Street:

"The Avnet Science and Technology Fair offers Arizona elementary school elementary school: see school.  students an opportunity to demonstrate their problem-solving and creative-thinking skills by applying the science principles currently being taught in our schools and inventing a new product or process," said Phil Gallagher, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing, Americas. "Additionally, Avnet is helping develop young students for future leadership roles in the high-technology industry, which benefits them and the entire community."

The student entries will be exhibited from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and judged by professionals from Avnet, STMicroelectronics, the Dairy Council and Arizona Milk Producers, Calence, and other local companies. They will choose the top three winning entries from each grade during the Fair. Awards will be presented during a luncheon. Winners from each grade level will receive $1,000, as will their teachers, plus they will also demonstrate their winning inventions on a local television program. Second place winners will receive $400, and third place winners will receive $200. Additionally, STMicroelectronics will award one student $1,000 for an innovative environmental project; Avnet will award $1,000 for an innovative computer science project; and the Dairy Council and Arizona Milk Producers will award another $1,000 for an agricultural technology project.
