Is among the First Facilities in the World to Offer Treatment Breakthrough From IsoRay Medical
WHAT:
-- Arizona Oncology Services (AOS) is the first medical facility
in the Southwest to offer patients a new treatment option for
prostate cancer. AOS is among the first in facilities in the
world to use the radioactive isotope Cesium-131 for LDR (low
dose radiation) brachytherapy seed treatment.
-- Dr. David Beyer, recognized as an internationally known expert
on prostate cancer treatment, has performed the initial
implants using the new isotope seed. It represents the first
major advancement in LDR seed brachytherapy in more than 18
years.
-- The new Cesium-131 seed has a significantly higher dose rate
than current treatments, allowing for the delivery of more
radiation in a shorter period of time to maximize its
effectiveness -- enabling patients to return to normal
activities sooner.
-- When placed inside or near a tumor, Cesium-131 seeds deliver
radiation directly to cancer cells while reducing or
eliminating damage to surrounding tissue.
WHEN:
Dr. David Beyer will be available for media interviews (in-person and
on the phone) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2.
WHERE:
Arizona Oncology Services, Scottsdale. 8994 East Desert Cove, Suite
100. Scottsdale. Phone: 602-274-4484.
