"We see a growing demand among our convenience store and other customers for systems that monitor leakage in underground pipelines as well the USTs themselves. Through this strategic alliance with Hasstech, AZI now offers its customers the industry's best electronic line leak detection technology to complement our ENCOMPASS system, which is rapidly emerging as an industry standard for UST monitoring," explained John Hudnall, president and chief executive officer of Arizona Instrument.

He noted that under current EPA EPA eicosapentaenoic acid.

regulations, all petroleum USTs and associated pipelines must have an EPA-approved monitoring system in place by the end of 1998.

Hudnall said AZI has developed a custom interface to link the LineTite and ENCOMPASS systems. He said that the system, which has been third party certified for continuous monitoring and annual precision testing, will be marketed under the ENCOMPASS name and supported by AZI as well as by Hasstech's nationwide distribution and service network.

Jon Young, president of Hasstech, said, "We are pleased to provide the benefits of Constant Pressure Leak Detection, CPLD (Complex PLD) A programmable logic device that is made up of several simple PLDs (SPLDs) with a programmable switching matrix in between the logic blocks. CPLDs typically use EEPROM, flash memory or SRAM to hold the logic design interconnections. See PLD and SPLD.  , to Arizona Instrument and its customers. ENCOMPASS integrates all facets of wet stock management into a PC-based network. This makes great business sense and is clearly where the major gasoline marketing customers are headed."

ENCOMPASS is a patented, Windows-based fuel management and environmental compliance system that uses on-site personal computers to manage gasoline inventory and meet Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  (EPA) leak detection requirements for underground storage tanks (USTs) that contain petroleum products.

The ENCOMPASS system easily integrates with existing site computer programs and provides on-line access of tank information to headquarters management. The EPA estimates that there are more than 1.3 million such USTs in the United States of which approximately 70% have not yet been equipped for permanent monitoring.
