Arizona Democratic Party Announces Internet Voting Registration Procedures for World's First Legally-Binding Public Election.
Business Editors
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2000--
Arizona Residents Urged to Register to Vote
Online in Democratic Primary for President
The Arizona Democratic Party and Votation.com today announced
registration requirements to participate in the first-ever,
legally-binding public election over the Internet to be conducted this
coming March. To vote online from a remote location, Arizona voters
must be registered as Democrats by January 22, 2000 in order to meet
Arizona State primary participation deadlines.
Remote Internet voting from a home or office will be allowed from
Tuesday, March 7, 12:01 a.m. through Friday, March 10, 11:59 p.m. In
addition, over 50 polling places located throughout the state will be
open from 7:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. on election day, March 11, 2000.
"Voters who are not currently registered to vote online can do so
by contacting their local County Recorder," said Mark Fleisher,
Chairman, Arizona Democratic Party. "Even if you miss the January 22
deadline, you can still take part in this historic election by showing
up in person on March 11 at a polling place, registering as a
Democrat, and voting online. Each polling place will provide Internet
terminals."
Prior to the remote Internet voting period, a PIN number and
remote Internet voting instructions will be mailed to each registered
Democrat. Detailed instructions will also be posted on both the
Arizona Democratic Party Web site at http://www.azdem.org and the
Votation.com Web site at http://www.election.com. In addition, Voters
can print a copy of the Voter Registration form by going to the
Arizona Secretary of State Web Site at http://www.sosaz.com or the
Arizona Democratic Party Web site at http://www.azdem.org. A list of
all 15 County Recorders is also provided in the back of this press
release.
