Ariz. college to beef up remedial education.


TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Pinta Community College has adopted a plan that calls for more remedial-education programs and for more convenient courses for working people.

The two-year plan, described as the college's most comprehensive ever, also calls for streamlining operations.

The plan assigns accountability for a lengthy list of tasks ranging from tracking academic success of athletes to developing career plans for employees.

It also prioritizes capital needs.

Among other things, the plan acknowledges the college's need to improve how it serves students who need remedial math, reading and writing help.

Many students leave Pima College without the educational level that might be expected, the report said.
