Arima Optoelectronics Purchases Veeco TurboDisc MOCVD System.

WOODBURY, N.Y. -- Veeco Instruments Inc. (Nasdaq: VECO VECO Vernier Engine Cut Off ), announced today that Arima Optoelectronics Corporation, a world-leading manufacturer of high brightness LED wafers located in Taiwan, has purchased a TurboDisc[R] E450[TM] As/P Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition Vapor deposition

Production of a film of material often on a heated surface and in a vacuum. Vapor deposition technology is used in a large variety of applications.
(MOCVD MOCVD Metallo Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition

) System for automotive LED applications.

Dr. P. J. Wang, President of Arima Optoelectronics, said, "We are confident in the TurboDisc E450's very high throughput and minimal downtime due to its low maintenance TurboDisc reactor. We expect that the E450 will allow us maximum value as we expand our production of red, orange and yellow (R/O/Y) LEDs."

Piero Sferlazzo, Vice President, General Manager of Veeco's MOCVD operations commented, "The production-proven TurboDisc E450's ability to produce consistently high yields of premium devices is quickly making it the tool of choice among manufacturers of R/O/Y LEDs for automotive applications."

Engineered for the high-volume production of compound semiconductor materials Semiconductor materials are insulators at absolute zero temperature that conduct electricity in a limited way at room temperature (see also Semiconductor). The defining property of a semiconductor material is that it can be doped with impurities that alter its electronic properties , Veeco's TurboDisc As/P tools offer a level of process control and productivity unmatched by competing MOCVD systems. With integrated RealTemp[R] 200 technology for direct wafer temperature control, and fast gas switching for strict control of interface abruptness, these technically advanced systems provide excellent process stability and material quality. Veeco's largest capacity MOCVD production system, the E450, offers reliable mass production of R/O/Y HB-LEDs, HBTs, pHEMTs, and multi-junction solar cells.

About Arima Optoelectronics Corporation

Arima's principal activities are manufacturing and trading of luminous diode crystalline, chips and laser diode A semiconductor-based laser used to generate analog signals or digital pulses for transmission through optical fibers. Both laser diodes and LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are used for this purpose, but the laser diode generates a smaller beam that is easier to couple with the smaller core  crystalline. Other activities include researching and developing of electronic parts, testing and manufacturing of microwave parts and other electronic spare parts, designing of machinery and retailing and wholesaling of electric appliances. Products include light emitting diodes, laser diodes and lighting systems. With manufacturing operations in Taiwan and Europe, the Group exports its products to Asia, the United States and Europe.
