"Ariel's new Dangerous Goods database offers unprecedented breadth and depth of content for the international transportation of hazardous materials," said John Wyatt
John Thomas Wyatt (April 19, 1935 – April 6, 1998) was a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. From 1961 through 1969, he played for the Kansas City Athletics (1961-1966[start]), Boston Red Sox (1966[end]-1968[start
, Chief Executive Officer, Ariel Research Corporation. "This database is designed to provide quick access to comprehensive dangerous goods regulatory requirements. Now, organizations can easily retrieve detailed transportation compliance information that crosses language and international boundaries."

New features of the Dangerous Goods database include:

-- English, German, French and Dutch proper shipping names are

standard for all European regulations

-- The Canadian Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations

are now available

-- Comprehensive data is available for all classes (including 1 &

7) of Dangerous Goods regulations

The Dangerous Goods database is accessible through a module of WebInsight, Ariel's web-based global chemical regulatory compliance tool, and can also be easily integrated into SAP's EH&S Dangerous Goods functionality through Ariel's Staging Area software.

Ariel has also made significant improvements to the Staging Area, an interface for compiling, verifying and loading regulatory data at the substance level. The Staging Area allows for an initial load and periodic updates of regulatory data specific to the users' need and permits users unsurpassed flexibility and control over complex legal compliance requirements.

The new Staging Area provides the following features and benefits:

-- Allows users to select, review and save both header and

property tree data for any particular UN or NA number, thus

eliminating the import of large files with fixed substance

headers which were necessary in earlier versions.

-- Allows the same substances to be reused across updates,

maintaining the linkages between DG Classifications and UN

Listed Substances.

-- Provides all valid shipping names and variants (including

proper shipping names in multiple languages) for each

applicable regulation per UN number. This allows each company

to decide which shipping name is most appropriate based on

multiple variables including mode of transport and country of

destination.

-- Allows the user to assign any name they choose for their

substance, versus having rigid naming conventions.

-- Provides compliance checks for the international

transportation of hazardous materials, which depends upon the

underlying data.

The Dangerous Goods database provides complete sets of data to create a full-set of UN List substances for:

-- Dangerous Goods Regulations

-- Dangerous Goods Classes

-- Dangerous Goods Classification Codes

-- Packing Groups

-- Danger Labels

-- Packaging Instruction Numbers (IATA & 49 CFR)

-- Hazard Identification Numbers

-- Transport Categories

-- Packaging Codes

-- Emergency Management Schedule Numbers (IMDG IMDG International Maritime Dangerous Goods (United Nations) )

-- Marine Pollutants (IMDG)
