Ariel Corporation and KeyLink Systems Join Forces to Provide PowerPOP Systems to ISPs.

CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 1999--

KeyLink Systems will offer rack-mounted, Windows NT-based systems to ISPs based on Ariel's PowerPOP architecture and high-density 56K/ISDN remote access cards. Details of the new systems will be released this fall.

With Ariel's PowerPOP architecture, KeyLink Systems is able to offer a low-cost, flexible, high-performance platform for building ISP (1) See in-system programmable.

To this base platform, ISPs can add Linux- or Windows NT-based software components such as authentication, Distributed Naming Services (DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. , web servers, web caching, news group support and backup.

"We're thrilled to have KeyLink Systems on board with the PowerPOP architecture," said Jay Atlas, president and chief executive officer of Ariel. "KeyLink Systems' systems integration expertise, together with their world-renowned distribution channel, make them a very attractive PowerPOP partner."

"KeyLink Systems' experience with the ISP marketplace indicates it is ready and in need of an open architecture solution," said Bob Bailey, senior vice president, Pioneer-Standard, Computer Systems Division. "By utilizing Ariel's PowerPOP architecture, we can offer ISPs a broad platform for delivering high-quality Internet services in a more flexible and profitable manner."

PowerPOP systems provide KeyLink Systems with an intelligent alternative to dumb remote access concentrators for building POPs that boost efficiency and quality of service. PowerPOP systems equipped with DNS caching and NT compression, for example, improve network efficiency and responsiveness by reducing traffic between POPs and NOCs, minimizing DNS lookup delays, and enhancing effectiveness between POPs and subscribers.

PowerPOP systems are also ideal for reducing NOCs equipment costs. By distributing PowerPOP systems, KeyLink Systems is enabling ISPs to consolidate NOC (Network Operations Center) A central or regional location for monitoring a large network. Also called a "network management center" (NMC), "service management center" (SMC) or "network control center" (NCC), a NOC may be used to manage a large enterprise network,  functions and services like DNS, authentication, web hosting, FTP, email, caching and backup onto a single Linux or Windows NT system. Later, when ISPs need to increase capacity or deploy new services, they can do so by simply adding more PowerPOP systems.

Ariel's PCI-based RS2000 remote access cards give Linux and Windows NT PowerPOP systems the physical connections required for remote dial-in and LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  dial-out. Combining dual T1/PRI interfaces with 24 V.90 modems on a single PCI card, the RS2000 lets ISPs build intelligent POPs that are up to 50 percent less expensive than dedicated remote access concentrators.

One of the RS2000's PRI/T1 interfaces, together with the board's 24 modems, can accommodate up to 24 remote access sessions originating from any combination of digital V.90-compatible 56-kbps, analog 33.6-kbps or 64-kbps basic rate ISDN ISDN
