Installation of the CD-based ArialPhone software is simple: it is not necessary to get assistance from a home integrator (1) In electronics, a device that combines an input with a variable, such as time, and provides an analog output; for example, a watt-hour meter.

To operate ArialPhone, the user presses the Earset's action button to alert the ArialPhone base station to listen for voice commands, such as "turn on dining room light." These commands then prompt the ArialPhone voice control software to work through the X10 home automation interface to send signals over a home's electrical wiring Electrical wiring in general refers to insulated conductors used to carry electricity, and associated devices. Beyond home automation, ArialPhone also facilitates both analog and Internet-based telephone communications. This is accomplished through the Earset working in conjunction with the ArialPhone voice-dialing software, installed on the user's existing PC. Users can perform automated functions such as voice dialing by name, answering calls, and other telephone operations from anywhere in the home or office. For further ease of use, ArialPhone accesses PC-resident contact management systems, such as ACT!, Outlook and Outlook Express, making it unnecessary for users to remember phone numbers in order to place a call. In addition, the ArialPhone system is available with add-on software that gives users the ability to use the device as a wireless microphone A wireless microphone, as the name implies, is a microphone without a physical cable connecting it directly to the sound recording or amplifying equipment with which it is associated.  for Internet calling See Internet telephony.  and other applications that accept microphone input, including speech recognition software such as Dragon Systems' Naturally Speaking and IBM's ViaVoice.
