Argonaut Technologies Introduces Benchtop Synthesizer for Pharmaceutical and Chemical Process Development.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 2002

Argonaut Technologies (Nasdaq:AGNT AGNT Association for Global New Thought

) today introduced the Advantage Series(TM) Manual Chemistry Synthesizer synthesizer

Machine that electronically generates and modifies sounds, frequently with the use of a digital computer, for use in the composition of electronic music and in live performance.
2050, a compact, easy-to-use benchtop synthesizer that enables individual process chemists to perform quick, exploratory, parallel reaction experiments at different temperatures. Sized and priced for individual use, the 2050 offers five reaction vessels with independent temperature control and powerful mixing. The Advantage Series Manual Chemistry Synthesizer 2050 is the first in a series of products from Argonaut designed to strengthen process chemistry in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries by providing better reaction analysis tools and information at each stage of development.

"Process chemists can just walk up and use the Chemistry Synthesizer 2050 and try out reactions they're thinking about without programming anything or signing up for time on a shared instrument," said Howard D. Goldstein, Senior Vice President at Argonaut. "By allowing chemists to try out different reactions quickly, this product fills the gap that previously existed between the process chemist's imagination and the detailed programming required by larger, advanced parallel synthesis systems."

The Manual Chemistry Synthesizer 2050 offers independent temperature control over five reaction vessels, the option of using fewer than all of the vessels if desired, a cold reflux head to recycle volatile reagents back to the reaction mixture, independent high-temperature reaction cut-offs for each vessel, and a sealed reaction environment for inert-gas experiments, prevention of external condensation, and safety. Powerful mixing motors ensure rapid and complete reagent mixing that prevents irreproducible "hot spot" reaction conditions and enables the use of solid or viscous viscous /vis·cous/ (vis´kus) sticky or gummy; having a high degree of viscosity.
