energy sector has gone through an important crisis as a consequence of natural gas shortage, fixed energy tariffs, a cap on energy prices, and no investments in increasing energy generation since 1999. The energy demand expects to increase to 19,100 MW by July 2008, while the installed capacity of generation estimates at 20,000 MW, 20 percent below the remaining advised capacity to avoid supply difficulties to satisfy the demand. All these factors threaten Argentina's economic expansion. The government should immediately implement adequate measures to attract investments in oil and gas exploration, along with electricity generation projects to expand the supply of energy and raise energy rates to international levels.

This briefing will benefit energy equipment manufacturers, utility companies, transportation companies, distributors and electricity users.

"The growth in energy demand expects to continue at a higher rate than the energy generation," states Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Georgina Benedetti. "Argentina expects to continuously witness supply shortages in terms of electricity generation. As a result, it is anticipated that a large amount of importation of energy from Brazil and Uruguay will be required."
