Arequipa Resources Ltd. corrects Drill hole depth from first table for Drill hole No. 00N-00E, 70 to 84 meters sted 0 to 84 meters.


VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 1996-- Arequipa Resources Ltd. (the Company) is pleased to announce that it has completed its first drill hole in the Pierina prospect. Hole 00N-00E was drilled by Major Drilling Co. as a HQ core hole to a total depth of 158 meters. Fire assay analysis of the drill core performed in Lima indicates an average grade of 6.58 g/t Au from 0-88 meters. Check assays are being run in Canada.

A second tunnel, collared approximately 200 meters south and slightly east of the first tunnel, is presently at slightly more than 51 meters and also still in mineralization. -0-

Check sampling of the chip sampling by channel sampling in Tunnel One indicates geostatistical acceptable correlation between the two methods, although the grade could vary downwards by as much as 10 percent in the 32-72 meter interval. Additional geostatistical analysis of the two methods is ongoing.

Samples were composite coarse assay rejects and were leached for 48 hours. Over 90 percent of total gold recovery had been extracted within the first four hours. Consumption of NaCN averaged 1.0 kg/tonne and consumption of lime averaged 0.86 kg/Tonne. -0-

Samples were 16 m chip samples and were leached for 48 hours. Approximately 60 percent of total gold recovery was realized in the first four hours. Samples were screened into three size fractions: 1/2 inch-1, 1/4-1/2, and minus 1/4. The speed of recovery and percent recovery increased with decreasing particle size Particle size, also called grain size, refers to the diameter of individual grains of sediment, or the lithified particles in clastic rocks. The term may also be applied to other granular materials. . The average consumption of NaCN was 0.43 kg/tonne.

An estimated 98 percent of the rock cut by Tunnel One is oxidized oxidized
