("the Company") is pleased to announce results from additional pitting on its Pierina property in Ancash province of north central Peru. The most recent program of pits was designed to provide further detail on the main mineralized min·er·al·ize v. min·er·al·ized, min·er·al·iz·ing, min·er·al·iz·es v.tr. 1. To convert to a mineral substance; petrify. 2. To transform a metal into a mineral by oxidation. 3. area. A total of 92 pits have been dug in the main mineralized area, ranging in depth from 2 to 5 meters. Seventy-six of the pits bottomed in bedrock, and 16 bottomed in colluvium col·lu·vi·um n. pl. col·lu·vi·ums or col·lu·vi·a A loose deposit of rock debris accumulated through the action of gravity at the base of a cliff or slope. . An area of 26.7 hectares (267,000 square meters) has been defined by 63 pits which assayed 0.5 g/t Au or better, with an average grade of 4.22 g/t Au. Within this is an area of 19 hectares (190,000 square meters) defined by 47 pits assaying 1.0 g/t Au or better with an average grade of 5.41 g/t Au. Pits over 0.5 g/t which bottomed in bedrock averaged 4.10 g/t Au, and those over 1 g/t bottoming in bedrock averaged 5.52 g/t. This latest pitting program has increased the size of the area of anomalous gold by approximately 1.5 hectares. An area approximately 1 kilometer south and 200 meters higher than the highest part of the main mineralized area also contains significant surface gold anomalies. To date assays have been received on 32 pits in this area. Fourteen of the pits assayed over 0.2 g/t Au, with grades up to 2.14 g/t Au. An anomalous area of 14 hectares has been identified in which grades average 0.58 g/t Au; this area will be tested by drilling in the upcoming drill program, expected to begin in mid May. Approximately 52 additional pits are being dug in the south anomaly to further investigate the area and define drill targets. Assay results will be released when received. Additionally, Newcrest Resources Inc. has informed the Company that it has completed three drill holes on Arequipa's El Ferrol El Fer·rol also El Ferrol del Cau·dil·lo A city of northwest Spain on the Atlantic Ocean. An important naval station since the 18th century, it was occupied by the British and then the French in the early 1800s. Results have indicated the presence of a low grade copper-gold porphyry Porphyry, Greek scholar Porphyry (pôr`fĭrē), c.232–c.304, Greek scholar and Neoplatonic philosopher. Arequipa is presently evaluating Newcrest's data to determine whether additional work is warranted. -0- ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Ms. Catherine McLeod President CONTACT: Arequipa Resources Ltd.
