Arena funding for Brantford.


The county may well suffer from ice pad envy, now that governments have announced funding for a super-sized arena in Brantford.

The city will receive about $26 million in funding for its proposed four-pad arena at the Wayne Gretzky Noun 1. Wayne Gretzky - high-scoring Canadian ice-hockey player (born in 1961)

 in an announcement made on Jun. 5 by local dignitaries.

In February, it was announced that the county will receive $15 million from the feds and the province combined, for its $23 million twin pad complex.

Brantford, the "Tournament Capital of Ontario" and Wayne Gretzky's birthplace will use its arena to host hockey tournaments which already provide a huge economic stimulus for both the city and the county.

The federal Build Canada Fund, matched by the province, provides "top up" money for projects that can be built over the next two years.
