Arena, Harwood awards get to the art of the matter.Fountain Gallery, a Manhattan art space representing artists living and working with mental illness, tonight welcomed more than 400 friends and supporters to its seventh annual Celebration of Life benefit at the Grand Hyatt New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. More than 100 original artworks by Gallery artists were displayed for sale at the event, which honored David Arena, president of Grubb & Ellis New York, and Leslie Harwood, managing director of Newmark Knight Frank, with the Esther Montanez Leadership Award. It was established in 1960 through a bill introduced in the New York State Legislature by New York State Senator MacNeil Mitchell (1905-1996), with backing from Governor Nelson . This remarkable collaboration between Fountain Gallery and the New York commercial real estate community raised over $300,000 to benefit Fountain Gallery. "The real estate community has been more than generous to us over the years," said Jason Bowman, director of Fountain Gallery. "As much as we look forward to this collaboration, now in its seventh year, I've been told by many in the industry that this is their favorite event. The benefit is a win-win: a chance for our artists to sell their work and an opportunity for real estate professionals to gather in support of a unique organization." The Esther Montanez Leadership Award was established to honor the memory of the woman who was a driving force in the founding of Fountain Gallery and a tireless advocate for people with mental illness throughout her long career as director of special projects for Fountain House
