Area high school grads saluted at MWCC event.

Radio host Jen Carter of WXLO 104.5 FM encouraged participants in Mount Wachusett This article is about the geological mountain. For information regarding the ski area, see Wachusett Mountain.
Mount Wachusett is located in the towns of Princeton and Westminster in Worcester County of Massachusetts.
 Community College's College Access and Transitions Programs to break out of their comfort zones in order to achieve their dreams during a recent awards recognition brunch at the Courtyard Marriott in Fitchburg.

Students from Fitchburg and Leominster high schools who are completing their participation with MWCC's Gateway to College program and Educational Talent Search Educational Talent Search (ETS) is one of eight United States federal TRIO programs. It was created as part of the Higher Education Act of 1965. The program identifies junior high and high school students with which to implement intervention strategies meant to increase the chances  and Upward Bound Upward Bound is a program of the United States Department of Education, the goal of this which is to give high school students who are in categories that make them less likely to attend college (such as low income, parents who didn't attend college, and living in rural areas) the  Math Science TRiO programs were joined by family members and teachers for the celebration.

The featured speaker, Ms. Carter explained that she went from being "a C student" in high school because of little interest in applying herself academically to becoming a college student pulling in A's and B's once she discovered her calling, in radio. "I found something that I loved to do and was truly passionate about it. I encourage you to do the same, because then your job will become more than just a job. It will become something that you love," she said.

Scholarships of $250 each were presented to Michael Phouangsaly of Fitchburg High School, who will be attending the University of Massachusetts The system includes UMass Amherst, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth (affiliated with Cape Cod Community College), UMass Lowell, and the UMass Medical School. It also has an online school called UMassOnline.  at Amherst; Kylie Donavan of the Gateway to College program, who will be attending Becker College Becker College is a college in Massachusetts with campuses in Worcester and Leicester. Founded in 1823 by fourteen Boston pharmacists, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy is the second oldest and the largest college of pharmacy in the United States. Two years after its founding, the College published the First American Pharmaceutical Library Catalogue.

Since 2001, MWCC's College Access and Preparation Programs have grown from two programs to 12 and now serve 3,500 students in North Central Massachusetts.

The Rev. Phil Alexander will be installed as the new pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, 750 Rindge Road, Fitchburg, in a ceremony at 4 p.m. June 21 at the church.

New England District President Rev. James Keurulainen will be preaching and conducting the rite of installation. Also participating will be clergy from sister congregations and the church choir. A reception will be held in the fellowship hall after the installation.
