Are you pining for a Hawaiian hot spot?

Get your fill of pineapples and more at the Kapalua Bay Hotel

"When you're the first guest at When the party, you get the best spot," boasts Revell K. Newton, director of sales and marketing for the Kapalua Bay Hotel (800-367-8000) in Lahaina, Hawaii Lahaina is the largest town and census-designated place (CDP) in West Maui, Maui County, Hawaii, United States, and the gateway to the famous Kaanapali and Kapalua beach resorts north of town. As of the 2000 Census, the CDP had a resident population of 9,118. . This hotel, managed by Starwood's Luxury Collection, staked its claim to prime real estate when it opened in 1978. The 1,650-acre resort is housed on a 23,000-acre operating pineapple plantation. And as you might imagine, hints of pineapples peek out from the strangest places.

Take the property's logo, for example. It's in the shape of a butterfly, but it has a pineapple lodged in its middle. The emblem symbolizes the metamorphosis of the pineapple plantation into a resort. So look for the flying pineapple throughout Kapalua, particularly in the butterfly-shaped pool and embroidered em·broi·der

Taste those luscious pineapples during breakfast as you pick from the many offerings of the early-morning buffet. Or sign up for the resort's two-and-a-half-hour pineapple-plantation tour, where you'll learn about growing and canning Ananas comosus Ananas comosus,

Of course, pineapples aren't the only treats you'll find at the Kapalua Hotel. There are a slew of restaurants in the vicinity that are accessible by walking or by hopping a ride on the resort's free bus shuttle service (which also runs between the resort and the airport). Take a swing on one of Kapalua's three championship golf courses: the Bay, the Village, and the Plantation. Or check out the facility's top-ranked tennis facility.
