Summer's here, which means all the time you normally spend sweating over homework and school stuff can be spent doing something you want to do! Are you going to get out there and try windsurfing for the first time or become a permanent fixture at your local pool?

1 The coolest girl at day camp just moved to town from Morocco, and she invites you over to dinner. The food smells fantastic but looks completely weird. You: a. Dig in. You love trying funky, far-out foods. b. Try a bite to be polite, and pray you don't hurl. c. Fill up on bread and salad, and create a couscous sculpture.

You two don't always have the same taste, but at least you know what you're getting.

3 Your community center is offering diving lessons, something you've always wanted to try but never had the guts. You: a. Sign up and get psyched by watching some diving competitions on cable. That could be you one day! b. Call the instructor to see if you can go to the first lesson on a trial basis and make a decision after that. c. Pass. What happens if you belly-flop in front of everyone?

4 The summer break of your dreams would include: a. Living with a family in a foreign country. You'd love to spend your summer meeting new people and learning about an exotic land. b. The skates are kinda cool, but your folks know you never even mastered those plastic Sesame Street skates they got you when you were 5.

8 After helping your dad do a ton of chores around the house, he offers to take you out to do anything you want over the weekend. You choose: a. A trip to the mall to see if those purple Pumas have gone on sale and then out for sushi (you've been dying to find out what all this raw fish rage is about). b. A golf outing because you've always wondered if golf is extremely cool or painfully boring. c. Tickets to a community theater production of Romeo and Juliet since you see it every summer. It's tradition.

9 You're at sleepaway camp, and you can pick any activities you want. You'd spend most of your time: a. On the archery range! It's not the most practical sport, but where else will you ever get a chance to shoot a bow and arrow? b. Trying out for the musical. Performing in front of a big audience is new, but you were in your school's talent show last year and loved being in the spotlight. c. Doing crafts. Art is your favorite subject at school, so why not?

10 A guy you met at the beach asks you out on a real date--just the two of you. You: a. Let him plan everything--you love surprises! b. Pick the restaurant, but tell him the entertainment is his responsibility. c. Suggest grabbing some chili-cheese fries at the '50s-style where most of your friends hang out.

MOSTLY A's

If someone invited you to swim with sharks or offered you escargot (that's French fo snails cooked in garlic), you'd probably say, "Sure thang!" You're always up for just about anything. Life is way too short to shy away from new things simply because you've never tried them before. Heck, once upon a time, you had never listened to India Arie either, but now you're her biggest fan. Besides, how are you ever going to become a champion surfing diva if you cant' handle a few falls? Keep seeking out new experiences--it's the absolute best way to learn about new cultures, interesting people, different foods and even yourself. Basically, trying new stuff makes you a more rounded, more interesting and more confident you. As long as you play it safe and smart, you're on the right track. Keep it up!

MOSTLY B's

You've got a sort of Rory Gilmore thing going on. Sometimes you're a real adventurer, and other times you play it safe. With a little encouragement, you're willing to try new ideas and experiences--but only if they aren't completely crazy. So next time someone invites you to try something that appeals to you even the teensiest bit, like eating indian tandoori chicken or playing Ultimate Frisbee, just go for it. Trying new things can be a gamble, but it's worth the risk if it turns you on to a new favorite munchie or sport. When opportunities present themselves, remember to let your guard down every once in a while--you'll be glad you did.

MOSTLY C's

OK! Just because something is new to you, doesn't mean it's scary, lame or bad. And just because you normally do things one way doesn't mean another way is wrong--just different. True, it's hard to stomach the idea of being a beginner at tennis when you can already score a soccer goal with your eyes closed. But if you don't try new stuff, you're going to miss out--big time. If nothing else, trying new things gives you a better idea of your own preferences. Then when someone offers you caviar, you can honesly say, "No, thanks. I've tried it before, but it's not my thing." So branch out every now and then--you might be glad you did!
