The study will also look at how effectively health-care providers deliver preventive health-care services to people with MS.

Some 3,000 people with MS will be randomly selected from National MS Society lists. They will receive a letter explaining the study, followed by a phone call asking for an interview. Participation is voluntary, and anyone may withdraw at any time. Over the phone, an interviewer will cover topics including age, education, gender, immunizations, use of cancer and other screening tests, use of health-care services, type of health insurance, diet, and lifestyle. All answers will be strictly confidential.

The findings could enable the Society to increase the use of measures that promote good health and detect health problems early by people with MS. By providing hard data, the study may also strengthen Society efforts to improve insurance coverage for people with MS.

If you receive one of Westat's letters, please help make this study a success by volunteering to participate.
