Through this partnership Ardent and BMC Software are providing end-users with high-performance solutions for data propagation, including extraction, transformation and changed data capture tools.

Ardent Software's DataStage extraction and transformation tool will play a key role in BMC (BMC Software, Inc., Houston, TX, www.bmc.com) A leading supplier of software that supports and improves the availability, performance, and recovery of applications in complex computing environments.  Software's Enterprise Data Propagation (EDP) strategy through its integration with BMC Software products such as BMC Software's ChangeDataMove and DataReach. DataStage's versatility, reusable stage architecture, and ease-of-use give end-users the flexibility to meet continuously changing information needs by allowing them to quickly and easily develop and expand transformation tasks within the data management environment. The result of this integration is a comprehensive, high-performance solution for capturing and propagating legacy data to data warehouses and data marts running on open systems and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  databases.

"DataStage's scalable environment, ability to perform complex data transformations, and ability to monitor meta data, all contribute to a significant partnership with BMC," according to according to

"BMC Software's association with Ardent DataStage represents a real step forward in our ability to integrate legacy applications and new applications at the data level," said Nancy Harris, director of product marketing data availability Refers to the degree to which data can be instantly accessed. The term is mostly associated with service levels that are set up either by the internal IT organization or that may be guaranteed by a third party datacenter or storage provider.  and solutions for BMC Software. "The combination of our high-performance bulk data movement and legacy change capture solutions with Ardent's DataStage extraction and transformation tools give customers a complete solution to assure critical business decisions are based on current, accurate and quality data."

About DataStage

DataStage streamlines the construction and maintenance of data warehouses through its open, scalable and extensible architecture. Its visual design tool allows developers to add more data sources, targets, and transformations without rebuilding applications, thereby reducing cost, time and resources. Using DataStage's modular Plug-In stages, developers can add warehouse functionality as they need it. Reusable components cut development time dramatically and produce data warehouses that grow with the business. DataStage reduces the complexities of the entire data warehouse life cycle for many of the world's leading companies.

About BMC Software's Enterprise Data Propagation (EDP)

Two new products, ChangeDataMove and DataReach, are included in this initial announcement of BMC Software's EDP Strategy.

ChangeDataMove provides highly efficient, transaction-based change capture for DB2 for OS/390, IMS (1) See IP Multimedia Subsystem.

(2) (Information Management System) An early IBM hierarchical DBMS for IBM mainframes. IMS was widely implemented throughout the 1970s under MVS and continues to be used under z/OS.
, CICS (Customer Information Control System) A TP monitor from IBM that was originally developed to provide transaction processing for IBM mainframes. It controls the interaction between applications and users and lets programmers develop screen displays without  VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method) An IBM access method for storing data, widely used in IBM mainframes. It uses the B+tree method for organizing data.

VSAM - Virtual Storage Access Method
and VSAM batch applications with near real time or scheduled propagation of the captured changes to DB2 for OS/390 and to Oracle on Unix. The product is a high performance solution designed to support operational applications executing hundreds of transactions per second In a very generic sense, the term Transactions Per Second refers to the number of atomic actions performed by certain entity per second. In a more restrictied view, the term is usually used by DBMS vendor and user community to refer to the number of database transactions performed . For IMS and VSAM, ChangeDataMove is unique because it does not use logs or require any changes to an existing application's logging strategy to capture changes.

DataReach Version 2.1 was developed through a partnership between BMC Software and EMC Corporation and provides a new approach for moving DB2 for OS/390 data to Oracle, Sybase and Informix databases on Unix systems. DataReach, while executing on a Unix host, uses EMC Symmetrix storage to directly access MVS (Multiple Virtual Storage) Introduced in 1974, the primary operating system used with IBM mainframes (the others are VM and DOS/VSE). MVS is a batch processing-oriented operating system that manages large amounts of memory and disk space.  DB2 data. The data transfers are performed at channel speeds, no mainframe overhead is involved and no network traffic is generated. As a result, DataReach accomplishes a move and load to the target system 10 to 100 times faster than typical network solutions.
