This broad platform support, along with Ardent's worldwide presence in major countries, has been a key factor in forming these partnerships.

"Effective data extraction and transformation tools are critical to any successful data warehousing or data mart solution," said Pete Fiore, vice president and general manager of Ardent's Data Warehouse business unit. "Because of DataStage's flexibility and extensibility, our partners are incorporating the tool into their product offering to deliver complete and unique warehousing solutions to fit their customers' needs. Conversely, partnering with these companies allows Ardent to expand the scope of DataStage by leveraging partner technologies and distribution channels."

Compaq / Digital OEM Agreement

Ardent entered into an agreement with Compaq / Digital in May of 1998 to provide the company with a single tool for data migration that includes extensive functions for data extraction, cleansing, sorting, aggregation and loading. DataStage's ability to handle complex issues such as writing to multiple targets, operating system integration and capturing changed data are critical benefits to Compaq / Digital's high-end customers, including many Fortune 500 companies deploying large scale data warehouses.

Sybase OEM Agreement

In the same month, Ardent and Sybase announced that they had co-engineered and customized DataStage as the ETT component of the Sybase Warehouse Studio, a comprehensive platform for the cost-effective and rapid design, deployment and management of high-performance, enterprise or departmental data warehouse solutions. The resulting tool, PowerStage, is incorporated into Warehouse Studio to make access to legacy and operational data sources easier and more efficient. Warehouse Studio and PowerStage provide a single-vendor solution to turn transaction-based information into a powerful resource for competitive advantage.

About DataStage

DataStage streamlines the building and maintenance of data warehouses through its open, scaleable and extensible architecture. Its visual design tool allows developers to add more data sources, targets, and transformations without rebuilding applications, thereby reducing cost, time and resources. Using DataStage's modular Plug-In stages, developers can add warehouse functionality as they need it. Reusable components cut development time dramatically and produce data warehouses that grow with the business. DataStage reduces the complexities of the entire data warehouse life cycle for many of the world's leading companies.
