Arctic Monkeys heat up the Arena.ARCTIC MONKEYS, Metro Radio Metro Radio is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to North East England. Its output is principally contemporary pop and dance music. It is owned by EMAP and is part of their Big City Network of stations. Arena. The small town band who hit the big time, and spawned a whole new generation of indie anthems, hit the Metro Radio Arena last night. Following the success of third album Humbug and illustrating a slight detour in style, Arctic Monkeys prove that you can, in fact, please them all. Eagles Of Death Metal are an inspired choice of support act, and a good indicator of the headliners' new direction; one which has no doubt been influenced by working with EODM EODM Eagles of Death Metal (band) EODM Explosive Ordnance Disposal Manual member, and rock legend, Josh Homme. As anticipation for Arctic Monkeys reaches monumental heights, I'm not overly surprised to watch young girls vault over railings in an attempt to get closer to front man, and current indie poster-boy, Alex Turner. Watching grown men join in - that's the surprise! Finally placating them, the rock giants took the stage, launching straight into The Jeweller's Hands to deliver a more mature sound. With heavier guitars and solid drums, I think it's safe to say the boys have grown-up grown-up adj. 1. Of, characteristic of, or intended for adults: grown-up movies; a grown-up discussion. 2. . Despite the increasing pushing and shoving, there's a great atmosphere as Turner's Yorkshire tones get everyone moving with Brainstorm, and House is a Circus. Hysteria ensues with mega-hit I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor; the crowd sing to every word, rising to their feet, where they'll remain for the duration of the night. The band speed through well received tracks from the new album, while older songs like View From The Afternoon, exemplify the contrast between their earlier sound and the new direction they're exploring. Pretty Visitors is a great mix of old and new influences, and When The Sun Goes Down is sing-along anthem of the night. The glitter cannons make for a great crescendo, and a truly memorable finish. These boys definitely aren't monkeying around. LAURA Laura, subject of the love poems of Petrarch.
