With the arctic blast moving through the Northeast, KeySpan announced that it has broken several records again this week in supplying gas to homes and businesses in Long Island and New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.  has prompted Long Island customers to consume approximately 63% percent more natural gas than is normally used during this time of year. In Brooklyn, natural gas demand came close to breaking last year's January 23 record high. On Thursday, Brooklyn hit the eighth highest sendout in its history at 1,070,757 DTH. This was close to last year's January 23 record sendout of 1,086,503 DTH. On a typical day in January, customers in this area usually consume an approximate 800,000 DTH of natural gas.
