Archive One Policy 4.2 Delivers ''SIS PLUS''.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. & READING, United Kingdom -- C2C (Client to Client) An earlier term for peer-to-peer (P2P), in which one user communicates with another user without going through a server in between. See peer-to-peer.  today announced the availability of Archive One Policy version 4.2, a major application upgrade with advances in storage capacity management and administrator security levels.

Archive One Policy 4.2 identifies storage efficiencies at the attached file level to provide savings to organizations. One new feature, SIS Plus (Single Instance Storage Plus), looks at the true cause of wasted storage volumes in the archive -- e-mail attachment A file that rides along with an e-mail message. The attached file can be of any type. E-mail programs make it easy to attach a file. For example, in Eudora, all you do is select Attach from the Message menu, browse through the folder hierarchy to find the file you want and then double  files -- and identifies unique e-mail attachments for a single instance store, rather than the e-mail messages that contain them.

The practical benefits result because many e-mail messages and variants on them (forward, RE, etc.) could contain the same attachment. Consider a sales team sending a product brochure to many clients, which would otherwise be stored again for each new variant message. Archive One's SIS PLUS provides the benefits of SIS in sending an attachment to many recipients, PLUS when it is included in a different message or forwarded on.

Additional features of Archive One Policy 4.2 include:

--An Integration Framework and Application Programming Interface (API) to open up the archive processes and repositories

--Additional administrator levels for enhanced security

--Enhanced deletion staging through to 'hard delete'

--Repository reporting, including archive growth analysis and trend information

--XML reports, enabling enhanced archive process data presentation

--Archival of Instant Messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or  and RSS feeds

"Amid all the hype, the market sometimes forgets that archiving does job with real benefits. It helps manage overloaded mailboxes, moving noncritical data to a better, often cheaper, yet still accessible place -- the automated equivalent of clearing your in-tray to keep just the things you need to hand," says Dave Hunt For other persons named Dave Hunt, see Dave Hunt (disambiguation).
