Archivas to Demonstrate Long-Term Fixed Content Archiving Solution at Gartner 25th Annual Data Center Conference.

Archivas Cluster (ArC) Now Delivers iSCSI Support and Industry Leading Scalability to over 85 Million User Files Per Server Node, for Total of Almost Seven Billion User Files Manageable in Single Archive Cluster

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Archivas[R], Inc., the leading provider of digital archiving solutions, today announced that it will demonstrate its Archivas Cluster[TM] (ArC[TM]) software at the Gartner 25th Annual Data Center Conference, taking place November 28 - December 1, 2006 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. , NV.

The Archivas demonstration, in Booth D-4, will highlight ArC's recently announced enhancements, including fully qualified iSCSI support, as well as industry leading scalability that now extends to 85 million user files per server node, for a total of almost seven billion user files manageable in a single archive cluster.

ArC software is a comprehensive preservation, compliance, and discovery platform for fixed content. It offers an enterprise-class storage repository with a single, global namespace A Global Namespace is a heterogeneous, enterprise-wide abstraction of all file information, open to dynamic customization based on user-defined parameters. This becomes of particular importance as multiple network based file systems proliferate within an organization -- the challenge , file-level retention, and other active, object-based policies. In addition, ArC is searchable by both metadata and content. ArC runs on standard data center servers and supports JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) A group of hard disks in a computer that are not set up as any type of RAID configuration. , RAID or SAN-based storage, providing customers with unprecedented deployment flexibility. Customers can avoid the proprietary lock-in of competing products because of ArC's POSIX-compliant file system, standard file formats, and accessibility through open data protocols such as CIFS (Common Internet File System) The file sharing protocol used in Windows. It evolved out of the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol in DOS, which is why the terms CIFS/SMB and SMB/CIFS are sometimes seen. The word "Internet" in the CIFS name has little relevance. , NFS (Network File System) The file sharing protocol in a Unix network. This de facto Unix standard, which is widely known as a "distributed file system," was developed by Sun. See file sharing protocol and WebNFS.

, as well as the necessity to act in accordance with internal governance and legal discovery mandates, has driven companies to recognize that the need to archive business data is not an option, but a legal and business imperative," said Jeff Spotts, vice president of marketing for Archivas. "Archivas supports these needs by offering the most technologically advanced and cost-effective online solution available on the market today. Moreover, because it is a completely open solution, customers are not locked-into any vendor's proprietary technology - consequently, not just their data is protected, but their 'freedom of choice' remains intact as well."

a Gartner research report entitled, "Overview of Fixed Content Disk Archive Storage" dated April 10, 2006 by Gartner analysts Stanley Zaffos and Pushan Rinnen, "Fixed content archiving built on top of tiered disk storage infrastructures is quickly becoming a best practice in highly regulated industries. Driving this trend is a combination of factors. The main factors are budget constraints A Budget Constraint represents the combinations of goods and services that a consumer can purchase given current prices and his income. Consumer theory uses the concepts of a budget constraint and a preference ordering to analyze consumer choices. , staff productivity, and regulatory requirements Regulatory requirements are part of the process of drug discovery and drug development. Regulatory requirements describe what is necessary for a new drug to be approved for marketing in any particular country. ."
