"Long-term mass storage of fixed-content data requires a new type of storage model, where the data's physical location is completely separate from its logical representation. In order to achieve this objective, digital data must be stored in a digital archive that is portable, scalable, reliable and highly available," said Gary Voight, chief executive officer for Archivas. "The Archivas exhibit at SC2004 will demonstrate ArC's ability to meet these requirements, while offering customers maximum flexibility and investment protection with its open file system interface and openness to heterogeneous mixed hardware."

The Archivas demonstration will feature the Archivas Cluster (ArC) in a mixed application and heterogeneous hardware environment. A single multi-terabyte ArC system will serve as a digital fixed content repository (1) A database of information about applications software that includes author, data elements, inputs, processes, outputs and interrelationships. A repository is used in a CASE or application development system in order to identify objects and business rules for reuse.  for separate applications storing email, voice recordings, video and satellite images. The system will consist of hardware from IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Dell and LinuxNetworx, in a single clustered solution.
