Archivas Selected by Postini as Data Archiving Foundation; Industry Leading Digital Archiving Technology Helps Enable New Message Archiving ''Software as a Service''.

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Archivas(TM), Inc., the leading provider of digital archiving solutions, today announced that Postini, the global leader in integrated message management, has chosen Archivas Cluster (ArC(TM)) technology as the foundation for its Postini Archive Manager service. Postini has deployed replicated ArC systems in its redundant global data centers to provide trustworthy, protected archive storage for its new world-class service.

Postini's suite of on-demand services provides spam E-mail that is not requested. Also known as "unsolicited commercial e-mail" (UCE), "unsolicited bulk e-mail" (UBE), "gray mail" and just plain "junk mail," the term is both a noun (the e-mail message) and a verb (to send it). , virus, and worm blocking, message archiving See e-mail archiving.  and encryption The reversible transformation of data from the original (the plaintext) to a difficult-to-interpret format (the ciphertext) as a mechanism for protecting its confidentiality, integrity and sometimes its authenticity. Encryption uses an encryption algorithm and one or more encryption keys.  and message continuity - with new and upgraded services being introduced on a continuous basis. It processes over one billion messages a day for the 35,000 organizations and the over ten million users it serves. The Postini Archive Manager service lets customers confidently, securely and cost effectively archive, protect, search and retrieve electronic messages to meet records management, regulatory compliance and legal readiness requirements.

"When planning our Postini Archive Manager service, we invested a great deal of time and resources investigating and testing virtually every available archival storage solution on the market today. After extensive, hands-on testing, we concluded that only Archivas offered the combination of data protection, performance, scalability, flexibility and cost-effectiveness demanded by both us and our customers," said Scott Petry, founder, chief technical officer and executive vice president of product development at Postini. "ArC has delivered these capabilities and more. Its open interfaces simplified our application development and integration efforts. It meets our peak message input performance demands with predictable scalability. It leverages software- and hardware-based protection mechanisms to safeguard our customers' data and can be deployed on industry-standard servers on which we run our other application services See ASP and Web services. ."

Petry concluded, "Bottom line, with Archivas we are able to deliver an ultra reliable service with predicable pred·i·ca·ble

"Postini's demand for a long term, fixed content archiving platform that would serve as a foundation for the delivery of its archiving, compliance and legal discovery solution required it be very easy to manage and virtually limitless in its ability to scale, in addition to providing the critical assurance that archived data would always be protected and secure, as well as highly available," said Gary Voight, president and chief executive officer for Archivas. "Postini is recognized the world over for its technology leadership and uncompromising standards with respect to the service levels it delivers to customers. It has become the standard by which all other messaging services are measured. Postini's choice to deploy ArC in such a critical application is a seal of approval of which we are extremely proud."

Customers avoid the proprietary lock-in of competing products because of ArC's POSIX-compliant file system, standard file formats, and accessibility through open data protocols such as CIFS (Common Internet File System) The file sharing protocol used in Windows. It evolved out of the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol in DOS, which is why the terms CIFS/SMB and SMB/CIFS are sometimes seen. The word "Internet" in the CIFS name has little relevance. , NFS (Network File System) The file sharing protocol in a Unix network.
