Archivas Announces Significant Enhancements to Industry's Leading Content Aware Storage (CAS) Solution for Active Archiving.

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Search, Discovery and Scalability Enhancements Deliver on Key Customer Requirements - Further Strengthening Technology Leadership Position

Archivas(TM), Inc., the leading provider of digital archiving solutions, today announced version 1.8 (v1.8) of its Archivas Cluster (ArC(TM)) software which includes significant enhancements in the areas of search and discovery, as well as scalability. The new enhancements deliver on key customer requirements and serve to further solidify Archivas ArC as the technology leader in the digital archiving space.

ArC v1.8 includes the following new capabilities:

Search and Discovery

--Concurrent indexing of metadata and content as files are written to the archive regardless of ingestion rate, with built-in ability to extract text and metadata from 370 file formats and 77 languages.

--Event-based updating of the full text and metadata index as retention status changes or as files are deleted.

--A Web-based discovery application designed for use by IT and business alike that allows users to find result sets with sub-second response times regardless of archive size, filter those results by frequently occurring phrases within files, file type or retention status, and then act on those results. Supported actions include the ability to place an identified set of files on retention hold with a single mouse click.

--Multiple search modes, including a visual query builder that lets non-technical users easily express compound conditions and conduct sophisticated searches encompassing both metadata and content, such as "find all files of a certain type, authored by a particular individual, that contain a given word or phrase, and were archived during a certain period of time."

--The ability to save, run and edit queries, as well as export results lists as either an XML or CSV (comma separated value) file format.

--A query service API that allows an Archivas Cluster to integrate easily with sophisticated e-discovery and legal case management software suites and to participate in a federated search.

Scalability

--Testability limits increased to 80 cluster nodes, with the ability to manage 30 million user files per node. By supporting underlying disk volumes up to 2 TB in size, a single Archivas Cluster can now support a single, global name space with 2.5 PB of storage capacity, capable of managing over 2 billion user files.

Other Enhancements

--A new retention hold operation, sometimes called litigation hold, which prevents a file of possible evidentiary value from being deleted from the archive even if its retention expires.

--Deferred retention functionality, which enforces the indefinite retention of a file until retention is set explicitly.

--Data shredding, which insures that all recoverable traces of a file are expunged after it is deleted, in accordance with the US DoD 5520-M recommendations.
