Architects expand NYC presence.

 Architect, RC., which has offices in Mineola, NY, and Princeton, NJ., has agreed to acquire Soffes Wood, Inc., a full-service design firm based in Manhattan.

JRS, a nationally recognized firm with extensive experience in bank, corporate, healthcare and retail design practices, will gain a presence in New York City New York City: see New York, city.
New York City

City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
 through the acquisition and will increase in size by more than 50%.

"This expansion will be very positive," said Soffes Wood co-founder and principal Jim Wood, "This growth will provide the firm with additional staff as well as additional expertise."

Size is critically important in New York City, the largest market in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  for architectural interiors.

"You are viewed very differently by the client base, when you can service them from multiple locations and with a multidisciplinary staff," said Wood.

"We wanted to expand our presence in New York City and further solidify our commitment to our clients in this market," said Sorrenti.

Moreover, "Soffes Wood has a lot of creative people," Sorrenti added "We're looking to pool our talents to create an even stronger design presence in all of our markets".

Both firms have gained attention for their designs of branches for Melville, NY-based North Fork Bank North Fork Bank was an American bank headquartered in Melville, New York purchased by Capital One at the end of 2006 for $14.6 billion U.S. dollars. It was only the second bank bought by Capital One, and was the larger of two acquisitions comprising Capital One's 2005-06 expansion .

"We are extremely excited about this opportunity to leverage the expertise that both companies bring to the table," said Alex Hadjiyane, AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture , a principal of JRS also noting that both organizations have many similarities.

JRS Architect, P.C ranks among Interior Design magazine's Top 100 Giants and also stands among the top 25 U.S. interior design firms for healthcare. The firm has 34 employees.

The proposed acquisition is expected to be completed before the end of the year and comes as JRS is marking the 20th anniversary of its founding by current president John R. Sorrenti.
