Jarmel Kizel Architects & Engineers, Inc. has completed the adaptive reuse Adaptive reuse is the process of adapting old structures for new purposes.

When the original use of a structure changes or is no longer required, as with older buildings from the industrial revolution, architects have the opportunity to change the primary function of the
 design of a 70,000-square-foot industrial building into an office facility for Staples. This facility, located at 45 Cedar Lane in Englewood, New Jersey Englewood is a city located in Bergen County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 26,203.

Englewood was incorporated as a city by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 17, 1899, from portions of Ridgefield Township and the remaining
, houses the leading office supplier's office direct sales group.

"We are pleased to have converted this industrial space into offices for Staples. The Company wanted to keep the industrial feel of the building, so we left the structure exposed in most places, we hung pendant lights and exposed the duct work for the new HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) In the home or small office with a handful of computers, HVAC is more for human comfort than the machines. In large datacenters, a humidity-free room with a steady, cool temperature is essential for the trouble-free  system, all while creating an office feel to the space," commented Matthew B. Jarmel, AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture , principal for Jarmel Kizel.

Jarmel Kizel provided full architecture and engineering services for Staples for this assignment and also assisted in land development approvals.

David Lesesne, RA, associate principal and Damian Melo, project manager, spearheaded this assignment. Unity Construction was the general contractor A general contractor is an organization or individual that contracts with another organization or individual (the owner) for the construction of a building, road or any other execution of work or facility. . Trammell Crow Company represented Staples in the lease transaction and performed project management services.
