Archipenko warming up well for Eclipse bid.

ARCHIPENKO pleased connections yesterday as he continued his build-up to the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown a week on Saturday, when working on the July course in Newmarket.

The Mike de Kock-trained Group 1 winner galloped over a mile under Kevin Shea with Diana's Choice (Juan Nel), and pulled a couple of lengths clear in the closing stages.

Archipenko won the Group 2 Summer Mile on his first run in Britain for De Kock at Ascot last July, and was beaten three-quarters of a length by Spirit One in the Arlington Million The Arlington Million is a Grade 1 flat horse race in the United States for thoroughbred horses aged three years and upward. It is raced over a distance of 1ΒΌ miles (approximately 2,000 metres) on the turf at Arlington Park, Arlington Heights, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) in  last August, but has not run since finishing sixth in the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup The Queen Elizabeth II Cup is a Group One Thoroughbred horse race at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong, New Territories, China. Sha Tin (also spelt Shatin) is an area in the New Territories, in the Hong Kong Special administrative region.

Shea said: "He felt great and was a bit too strong for the filly. He's pretty fit and we'll not work him on the grass again before the Eclipse - he will just have a spin on the Al Bahathri Polytrack.

"There is going to be a strong field for the Eclipse, as always, but if you haven't got a ticket then you haven't got a chance." The De Kock-trained triple Grade 2 winner Imbongi is set to make his British debut in the Group 3 John Bovington Memorial Criterion Stakes The Criterion Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres) at Newmarket's July course in late June or early July.  at Newmarket this Saturday.

The five-year-old finished a close sixth to Sight Winner in the Group 1 Champions Mile at Sha Tin on his latest start in April.

Shea said yesterday: "Imbongi is doing very well and worked well on Monday." Imbongi featured among 63 entries unveiled yesterday for the Abu Dhabi International Handicap at Ascot on July 25..
