The castle was built in 1295 by Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March as part of King Edward I's chain of fortresses across the north of Wales. . On Saturday and Sunday Justin Soper will be recreating his medieval bowman character at the 700-year-old fortress in the Adams Tower. Justin has many years experience as a re-enactor of this colourful period of history. He will be explaining how the longbow was used in battle and why it was so effective. Visitors will also discover more about everyday life during the Middle Ages such as the clothes people wore and the food they ate.
