Archer to recreate history of castle.

Byline: STEVE BAGNALL

PEOPLE will be able to discover what life was like as a medieval archer this weekend at Chirk Castle Chirk Castle (Welsh: Castell y Waun) is a castle located at Chirk, Wrexham, Wales.

The castle was built in 1295 by Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March as part of King Edward I's chain of fortresses across the north of Wales.
.

On Saturday and Sunday Justin Soper will be recreating his medieval bowman character at the 700-year-old fortress in the Adams Tower.

Justin has many years experience as a re-enactor of this colourful period of history.

He will be explaining how the longbow was used in battle and why it was so effective.

Visitors will also discover more about everyday life during the Middle Ages such as the clothes people wore and the food they ate.

Castle's early history is just as colourful. The Castle and its manor of 'Chirkland' were owned by some of the most powerful men in the country, many of whom were killed in battle or executed for treason.

Fifteen French prisoners were held in the Castle's dungeon Dungeon - Zork  for seven years, awaiting release after the battle of Agincourt Coordinates:

The Battle of Agincourt was fought on 25 October 1415 (Saint Crispin's Day), in northern France as part of the Hundred Years' War.
 in 1415.

A National Trust spokesman said: "Although the Castle has been updated many times since its beginning in 1295, and is still a family home today, it's easy to imagine what life would have been like when it was first built, especially in the Adams Tower.

"Having costumed interpreters like Justin means visitors can interact on a direct and personal level, finding out just the right information they are looking for."

The medieval bowman will be in the Castle's Adams Tower between 12 and 4pm. Normal admission charges apply.
